Shear Excitement celebrates the coming of spring and the beginning of the farming season. Winter coats are shed, planting begins and the life cycle of the farm is renewed.

We  celebrate the season with music, great food and the joy of newly green pastures.  The early spring weather is sometimes blustery, but hearts are always warm and filled with Shear Excitement!

Shearing!
Renowned sheep expert and master storyteller Nick Forrest will be on hand to demonstrate the fine art of sheep shearing.  Listen to the stories, feel the wool, touch the newly-shorn backs.  This is an experience you won't get very often!   Demos hourly on Saturday and Sunday

Herding Dog Demonstrations
We all know that well-trained dogs can herd sheep, but have you ever seen them herd ducks!  Joyce Burnham of Custom Stock Dogs shares her expertise in herd dog handling ... watch her dog Ben maneuver the sheep through the gates, over the ramps and across the pasture and marvel at the control and precision of this amazing team. Have a herding dog? Come for our herd dog clinic, ongoing through the weekend.  For clinic details, contact Vicki Foster
Demos at 11 &  1:30  Saturday and Sunday.

Highland & Celtic Music

Sheep, wool and fine textiles are unmistakably lined to the Celtic Irish and Scottish traditions.  In fact, Gorman Heritage Farm was settled in 1835 by the Browns, a Scottish immigrant family.  We celebrate our heritage by presenting two fine musical ensembles.  On Saturday, we'll hear the Cincinnati Caledonians, and on Sunday, perennial favorites Ceol Mhor return.   Performances in the Pavilion at 2:30 Saturday and Sunday.

 Wear Your Wool!

Last year's sweater contest was a great success, so we're bringing it back for 2010!  Wear your favorite wool sweater, cape, poncho or hat and step up for the judging.  Enter one of four categories:  Celtic (solid colors), Scandinavian (patterns), Kids or "I Made It Myself" and win great prized donated by local merchants including La Petite France, Blue Goose Sports Cafe and WalMart.
Judging Saturday and Sunday at 1 PM.

Check out our WTW sponsors!

Garden Fun

Farming is a community activity! Weather permitting, we'd like to have all the kids join us in planting our potato patch.  Wear your old clothes, drop the seed potatoes into our market garden, then come back in the summer and see the finished product on sale at our roadside stand!  All kids who help with the planting will receive a free coupon to come back in the summer and see the potatoes all green and growing! Open 10-4 Saturday and Sunday.

Textile Crafts

Members of the Weavers' Guild of Cincinnati will share their talents with you - see spinning and weaving demonstrations, ask questions, learn about new and different fibers and try your hand at textile skills.
Demos Saturday and Sunday.

Wood Carving Clinic!
