My name is Nellie Ashmore and I a second year student at
Earlham College in Richmond Indiana. I am a geology major and an outdoor
education minor. I have grown up on a farm that has pastured meat chickens and
organic vegetables and flowers. My passion is educating people about, and being
a part of, sustainable, local agricultural systems. I am very excited to return
this summer and interact with all of the wonderful kids that come to camp!
Jamie Clark
After earning a BS in graphic
design from the University of Cincinnati, working for various types of
companies, living and teaching on organic farms in Belize, and working with
coffee farmers in Guatemala, Jamie decided to continue her passion for
agriculture, food and teaching at Gorman Heritage Farm. Her desire is to live
sustainably, to educate others, and to harness people’s passions in creating a
socially and environmentally sustainable lifestyle for all people. She lives for
the next adventure and delights in the small intricacies of life and the natural
world. She is also very excited about meeting all of this year's campers and
sharing with them all the excitement this year's camp will bring.
Caroline Hohl
Senior
Camp Counselor- is studying Early Childhood Education and Peace and Justice at
Xavier University. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio. It was there that she
discovered a love of the outdoors and visiting and working on her aunt’s farm.
Her interest in the environment and sustainable living further developed when
she became a member of the first Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s youth
council. She has worked as a camp counselor for the Columbus School for Girl’s
ATLAS program for the past three years, and discovered that she loves to teach.
Caroline thinks that combining these two interests is going to be a lot of fun.
Some of her other interests include reading, various service activities,
learning about ecology, environmental justice, and sustainability, singing,
yoga, bike riding, and experimenting with new recipes. She is excited to work,
learn, and play with the Gorman Heritage Farm Campers this summer and can’t wait
to see them at the Farm!
Ann Kelley
Hi! My name is Ann Kelley and I’m from Upper Arlington, Ohio.
Last spring I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in
Environmental Science, and am currently pursuing an M.S. at the University of
Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment. My past research has
focused on ecosystem ecology, but my primary interests include farm-based and
place-based environmental education, local food, fair food access, and
sustainable agriculture. My interests evolved as a result of my internships at
two nature centers with educational farms: Stratford Ecological Center in
Delaware, Ohio and Aullwood Audubon Center in Dayton, Ohio. In my free time I
enjoy reading, painting, cooking, and running. I am thrilled to be working at
Gorman Heritage Farm this summer and look forward to gathering eggs and feeding
goats with the campers.
Erica Lee
Erica Lee is currently a senior at Howard University in
Washington D.C. where she is studying Nutritional Sciences. Upon graduation she
plans on serving in the Peace Corps where her hopes to obtain further
information in the nutrition field. Once she returns from the Peace Corps she
plans on attaining a Master’s in Food Studies and Nutrition. Erica has had a
passion for food and helping people her entire life. These loves have manifested
themselves in her career choice and her daily life. She loves to cook and teach
people about food and nutrition. Beyond food, Erica also loves participating in
multiple outdoors activities and traveling. She is very excited about the summer
camp this year and knows that this will be a wonderful experience for the
campers.
Dan Siegelman
I’m very excited to spend my first summer at Gorman Heritage
Farm! I am currently attending Oberlin College in Northern Ohio, where steps
towards achieving sustainability on campus are constantly being made. At Gorman
Heritage Farm, I look forward to passing on the environmental lessons I’ve
learned both in and out of the classroom to our campers. Before coming to
Oberlin, I lived in the Philadelphia area since the day I was born. When I’m not
busy with schoolwork, I enjoy jamming on violin and piano, discussing philosophy
and watching movies. Here’s to a great summer!
Assistant Camp Director
Madeline Dorger
Madeline
is a graduate from Villanova University where she studied English and Peace and
Justice. As a student, she volunteered as a teacher's assistant in inner
city Philadelphia for three years and participated in sustainable development
practicum in Central America. Teaching in Philadelphia and learning about
organic bananas was quite fulfilling, but it didn't make much sense to her to go
so far away to teach and study food when Ohio had agriculture and children
sprouting all along her long drive home from Philadelphia to Cincinnati.
She is excited for her third year of camp and looks forward to seeing many
familiar faces.

Camp Director
Mike Roman
His
love for the outdoors is evidenced in his past employment at the farm, his
interest in ecology while a student at Xavier University, and his self-directed
learning in the subjects of permaculture and organic gardening. His own
backyard mini-farm includes a perennial flower garden, organic vegetable garden,
berry patch, fruit trees, composter, and chicken coop. Mike first worked at GHF
as an agricultural intern, camp counselor, and office assistant during the
summers of 2002-2004. He has spent the last two years at GHF building the school
field trip program and summer camp program to be a leader in farm-based
education. He was recently nominated for the Merlin G. Pope, Jr. Diversity
Leadership Award for his work integrating GHF’s land-based education programs
into local schools, specifically Lincoln Heights Elementary. He is committed to
continue Gorman Heritage Farm's Summer Farm Camp programs' growth as an
excellent place for campers to learn about food, farming and care of our world.
