Volunteer Opportunities ... (sign up here)

Volunteers are critical to the survival of Gorman Heritage Farm. We need your help, and in return hope to provide you with ways to find personal fulfillment, creative outlets and the opportunity to serve your community, all in a fun, healthy environment.

Anyone can volunteer at Gorman Heritage Farm, because there is something here for everyone!

During the fall, we need volunteers to help weed, mulch, harvest, create new raised beds, and various other garden maintenance tasks. We are busy preparing our farm for the winter!

The 2008 Quilt Project is Underway!

The Gorman Farm Quilters invite anyone who is handy with a needle to join them in creating the 2008 Gorman Farm Quilt.  The quilt will be a early American theme, and everyone is invited to create his or her own signature square to be added to the piece.

Squares are due back to the Farm by January 15, and instructions may be downloaded and printed.  Click Here for a PDF version of the 2008 quilt instructions.

Check the List Below for details about other great ways to help the Farm!

To volunteer at the Farm, either for an event or on a regular basis, please call us at 513-563-6663. or e-mail Sandra Murphy.

  • Weed and Feeders – Help some Wednesday evenings in the gardens. Assist with planting, weeding, and harvesting gardens. This activity takes place from 5 to 7 pm, and includes plenty of time for socializing!

  •
  • Farmhands/Maintenance – Help do farm chores and some heavier work, especially during the haying season. Includes: planting, harvesting, hay gathering, and animal care.

  •
  • Trail Patrol Volunteer – Hike trails on a regular basis while trimming small branches, picking up garbage, and reporting any major trail problems to the Farm Manager.

  •
  • Education Assistant – Love kids? Love the outdoors? We’d love to have you come and help with our school field trips. We’ll train you to become one of our teaching assistants, and give you the opportunity to enrich young minds.

  •
  • Front Desk – Greet visitors, answer phones, enroll new members, collect fees. Weekends especially needed.

  •
  • Strolling Ambassadors – Lead a 1-hour walk for the public on a Saturday as a tour guide. Answer questions, bring animals out for supervised petting, chat with visitors and make them feel welcome.

  •
  • Scouts & Students – Need service hours toward graduation or advancement? Need a great place to start your Eagle project? We have many opportunities for young people, and can find a project that satisfies your interests as well as your requirements.

  •
  • “Fix-It Force” – Handy with tools? There are always opportunities to putter. Paint something, repair something, build something … this place is a shop guy’s dream!

  •
  • Group Service Days – Is your company, neighborhood or church looking for a way to work together on a service project? We’d love to have you come to the farm for a day, or even a couple of hours! We’ll work with you to select a project that is as important and meaningful to your group as it is to the farm. It’s great for teambuilding and great for Gorman Heritage Farm!

"Wish List"
As a non-profit organization, we work on a limited budget, and have to be very concerned about our expenses.  We gladly accept in-kind donations, and have created this "wish list" of goods and services that will help us continue the work that we do here at Gorman Heritage Farm.

Donations may be tax-deductible, and we will issue a receipt for any donations we receive.

Currently, we need the following items:

  • Office Trailer
Our staff is in desperate need of additional office space. Please call Sandra Murphy at 563-6663 if you or your company has a trailer they can loan or donate to the farm.

  • Two 4-Passenger Golf Carts
These will be used mainly for transporting GHF visitors whose physical limitations may not allow them to make it up the hill from the entrance to the farmyard.

  • Bike Rack
With the number of health-conscious visitors and volunteers we have seen lately, we would like to install a bike rack near the Winnebago Trail entrance to the farmyard area.

  • Repair Irrigation System
Please call Sandra Murphy at 563-6663 if you or your company can help with this large project.

For information on these or other ways you can volunteer, please contact Sandra Murphy: (513) 563-6663, or by e-mail.
