Job Title: Front Desk First Impression Maker

Category: Part Time, 14 hours per week

Classification: Non-exempt. $13/hour

Reports to: Operations Manager

Purpose: Do you love talking to people? Do you love sustainable farming? Then Gorman Heritage Farm would love to meet you! The Front Desk First Impression Maker is responsible for welcoming each visitor or caller with warmth, professionalism, and personal attention. This position requires a thorough understanding of GHF’s mission, the day-to-day operations of the Farm, and a friendly, welcoming, can-do attitude.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Greeting guests, anticipating visitor needs, setting a positive tone for each person’s visit to the Farm.
  • Answering the telephone, checking voicemail, routing calls to staff.
  • Answering an incredible amount of questions (with support from other GHF staff).
  • Ringing up Farm Shop sales, collecting and accounting for cash in the register.
  • Selling memberships and cutting garden subscriptions.
  • Organizing and dusting farm shop merchandise.
  • Alerting Office Manager when shop inventory is low.
  • Ensuring the Interpretive Center is open and ready for business by 9am and closing up the building at the end of the workday.
  • Completing light administrative tasks as needed for office staff.
  • Staffing GHF events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Skills:

  • Interest in providing excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and patiently with a variety of age groups, diverse populations, and people for whom English is a second language.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team in a nonprofit setting.
  • Positive attitude and flexibility in the face of changing circumstances.

Physical demands: This position requires the following physical activities: sitting, reaching, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors but support of GHF events is often outdoors.

Equipment operated: Square integrated cash register system, personal computer, copier, other office equipment as needed.
